What to choose for Laptop Processors

Intel Core i5-7200U

The upgraded version of i5 6200U which was one of the the best ultra-low voltage CPU from Intel with exceptional battery life and good performance. This CPU should be avoided if you plan to do any gaming as the i7-6700 HQ or i7-7700HQ are best suited for gaming needs. This CPU is faster than i7 6500U and i5 6200U. You won’t be compromising on performance if you opt for this processor unless you are using performance intensive applications or Games.

This is a Dual core processor (2 cores) 2.5 Ghz which can boost to 3.1 Ghz for performance intensive task. It performs just above i7 6500U. Suited for all day to day tasks and provides Good battery life.


Intel Core i5-6200U

The best ultra-low voltage CPU from Intel with long battery life and good performance before it was succeeded by i5-7200U. This is previous generation skylake series CPU and the new Kabylake Generation (intel 7 series) are out. The updated version of this CPU is i5 7200U which provides roughly 15 percent better performance in applications. The U suffix stands for ultra-low power.You won’t be compromising on performance if you opt for this processor unless you are using performance intensive applications or Games.

This is a Dual core processor (2 cores)2.3 Ghz which can boost to 2.8 Ghz for performance intensive task. Suited for all day to day tasks and provides good battery life.


Intel Core i7-6500U

The 6th gen best performing ultra-low voltage processor for the money and performance which is roughly 10 percent better than i5-6200U with similar battery life. This processor has a little edge over i5- 6200U in terms of specs and performance but might provide less value as laptops with this CPU are comparatively higher priced than the i5-6200U which provides better value for money with minor compromise in performance.You won’t be compromising on performance if you opt for this processor unless you are using performance intensive applications or Games.

The processors mentioned below are used for gaming as well as Mainstream laptops so we  are not making separate categories for Gaming and Multimedia.

Intel Core i7-6700HQ

The optimal laptop processor for multimedia and gaming laptops which has been succeeded by   i7-7700HQ. The H suffix stands for high performance and Q stands for quad core. If you are into gaming then look for a processor with the H suffix which should provide decent computing power paired with a Good Mobile Graphics chip  (GTX 1050,GTX 1050ti,GTX 1060,GTX 1070 or GTX1080). Performs just below the i7-6820HK and also not much less than i7-7700HQ and i7-7820HK  so don’t hesitate to buy this processor if you find a gaming laptop with this processor at a considerably less price than a 7th gen processor laptop as you won’t be compromising much on performance.

This is a Quad core processor (4 cores) .2.6 Ghz which can boost to 3.5 Ghz for performance intensive task. Suited for Gaming, Multimedia and editing.

 45W chip so this comes in multimedia or gaming laptops and not in ultra books.


Intel Core i7-7700HQ

Roughly 10 percent performance improvement over the i7 6700HQ and around 5 percent faster than an i7 6820HK and the successor to the  i7-6700HQ which was the most common processor in multimedia and Gaming laptops. If you are looking for a multimedia and Gaming laptop then this processor should provide the best value for money as other processors with small performance gains will have high markups. Currently i7-6700HQ laptops are still available in the market which provide better bang for your buck as 7th gen processors are still new with high markups.


Intel Core i7-6820HK

Provides roughly 5 percent improved performance over i7-6700 HQ  so if you are having to pay considerably more for this processor then avoid it and go for i7-6700HQ or i7-7700HQ. The H suffix in the processor name stands for High performance and K stands for unlocked which means you can squeeze more performance by using a custom software to increase the speed of this processor if you are into overclocking. Performance gains are hardly significant from Mobile processor overclocking.

Intel Core i7-7820HK
