New Desktop processors from AMD – Performance overview

AMD has launched new Desktop processors and we are going to tell you here where these processors stand in the performance hierarchy. The processors launched by AMD are aimed at the Enthusiast Market especially suited for Gaming and power users but that’s not say it wont suit your needs as these processors are priced very competitively and undercuts similar performing INTEL processors by almost half the price.

AMD launched 3 processors

  • Ryzen 7 1800X-$499

  • Ryzen 7 1700X-$399

  • Ryzen 7 1700  -$329

Like the core i7 ,core i5 and core i3 AMD will be following a similar naming scheme as Ryzen 7 should compete with intel core i7 ,Ryzen 5 which is yet to be launched should compete with Core i5 and Ryzen 3 with  Core i3.So where do these 3 processors stand in terms of performance ?The most important thing to keep in mind is that all these processors have minor difference in performance so we would strongly suggest to go with the processor which gives the best bang for your buck and the one that clearly stands out is Ryzen 7 1700.

Ryzen 7 1800X-$499

This is the top of the range processor and for the same specs you end up paying almost double if you are going with intel. It’s direct competitor with similar specs is the i7 6900k and INTEL is charging an exorbitant amount for the same. With this processor you get 8 cores like the i7 6900k  for half the price so you will be very well future proof if you buy this processor. The performance difference between i7 6900k and Ryzen 7 1800X is minimal in applications except for Games where it falls a little further behind. The Ryzen 1800X reduced performance in Games have been attributed to a Microsoft Windows optimization issue and should be sorted out by Microsoft in the future. So why would you pay $1200 when your getting the same specs and similar performance with Ryzen 1800X?

Ryzen 7 1700X-$399

This processor performs roughly 5 percent below the 1800X and also comes unlocked .This processor comes with 8 cores  and it’s direct competitor is the i7 6800k which comes with 6 cores which is priced at $440.So you would be better future proofed with more cores as gradually the Market adopts multi core technology.Minor performance loss will not be visible in Games so we had suggest to save the 100 dollars and go for the 1700X.This should surely unlock similar to 1800X  and provide similar performance.

Ryzen 7 1700  -$329

So you don’t care about minor performance margins  and want to get the processor which gives the best bang for your buck. Look no further as Ryzen 7 1700 should provide enthusiast level performance at reasonable price giving INTEL something to think about. This s an 8 core processor and it’s direct competitor is the i7 7700k which has 4 cores and priced at $349 which throws INTEL’s pricing strategy out of the window of more cores at higher premium as you would have to fork out $1050 for an 8 core INTEL processor.Performance difference among the new AMD processors with minor margins are not perceptible in Games  except if you are running benchmarking or other specialized  Software catering to a technical field . This should be the next best selling Gaming processor if you are jumping on the AMD platform. There are some concerns that Ryzen processors are under performing in Games but Microsoft has said its a software issue in Windows for which a patch should be released. As always new hardware launches are rocky and the Market should definitely give AMD a chance to get their Game on.
